i remember liking the no doubt song "just a girl" when i was younger. my oldest sister liked "spiderweb" and the other songs and, since she already liked those other songs and i wasn't allowed to like them too, i grew up liking and loving "just a girl".
the word "just" kind of downsizes being a girl. well, yeah, being a girl does have its downsides, like the monthly bloody moments, usually accompanied by mood swings, bloating and pain (in my case), also the societal standard of being "weaker" and of having to be "mahinhin" and demure.
but what's so bad about that?
anyway, that's not really what i want to talk about, but it's kinda fun thinking about that. what i want to talk to you people about is... *drumroll*
...dressing up.
i think most girls love to dress up. dressing up lets you get away from your usual selves, the people who walk around in jeans, a t-shirt, slippers or sneakers, a ponytail or with your hair down. i wonder if there are others like me, college students who miss going to prom and acquaintance parties where they have to wear their pretty skirts and dresses, waiting for the next wedding invitation or the next friend to celebrate their 18th birthday debut-style or the next formal gathering. i love having to wear my black bling sandals (of which i will pretty soon post pictures) and then scout around my closet to look for a dress to wear or wait around for nanay to take my measurements so we can go make a dress.
there is something very exciting about putting on the shoes, doing the hair, putting on make up, and going crazy over minor details like how my glasses don't match my outfit at all, or how i don't have a bag to go with anything, or how i may have gotten fatter, since the dress i'm wearing seems to be a bit too tight around the waist.
dressing up provides the usual dugyot-looking people (like me, opchors) with an excuse to get out of the un-exciting casual outfit life and into the glammed-up fairytale world, like cinderella's or sleeping beauty's or princess mia's. no wonder i love disney movies.
if any of you know the game "jojo's fashion show," let me tell you: it is addicting. for girls like me who love to dress up but can't seem to make things work, this is a very VERY addicting game.
so, is this post merely an endorsement for this computer game which brings our childhood paperdolls some pizzazz and a lot of outfit choices without the danger of their heads being torn off?
possibly.
is this a desperate attempt at asking to be invited to parties and such that need some dressing up?
not really.
is this the result of watching too much gossip girl and playing too much jojo's fashion show?
you bet.
haha, i know what you mean. ü
